christmas and everything after

first, merry christmas. I love this holiday, and don't get me wrong I like presents more than i could possibly express to you. I love Christmas for the lights and the music, not the cheesy awful radio muzac, but traditional church christmas music is one of my first loves.

I miss everyone. I'm freaking out about going to louisiana. Partially due to the fact that missing people will ineviatbly get worse the further i am away. I appreciate everyone's comments on the last post. Thank you. HOwever, acceptance comes from wtihin. SO again, thank you for all you've done but This is something that I've needed to do my entire life and I have to do it, so unfortunately you can't just convince me, you have to leave me to my own devices, much my dismay.

Christmas is treating me well so far. The choir at mass (including my own momma) was beautiful. i overuse that owrd, forgive me.

In other news i don't think I will ever ever be cllose to my granfather. There are few unforgivable sins in my mind and one of them is the desire to simply keep drinking, family be damned.

And finally, renee and i have made a flimsy but promising plan. all of you completely out of your mind fols who have decided to fall for/be attracted to us shall be systematically rounded up and poked wtih sticks until you stop. THis is all for the best as it is unhealthy for you to have done these things in the first place. My love and giant squish-myself-into-you-until-i-can't-breathe hugs to all. I miss you tremendously-katie

Okay a few questions:

- When you say "rounded up" you don't mean we're all corralled into one finite area do you? Because, and maybe i've never mentioned this to you, but I have a tiny little bit of a personal space issue...

- Secondly, these "sticks" you speak of, are they actually sticks of some kind, or are they just a metaphore for something deeper, and hopefully far less unpleasant?

Love ya, sticks be dammed

It's 'Grammar Time'!

Proofreading is a good idea.

Dear Anon...
the issues of grammar in my blog are not at the forefront for a reason. This space is used for the expelling of brainwaves from my head to my screen, and as such I choose not to edit or proofread them for fear of changing something of value. I go back and read them once they are posted and cringe at the grammar, possibly more than you do. I just wanted to explain myself. Thanks -kt

Technically you could actually argue that this is a forum of thought and discussion, whereas you're not actually "writing", but in a loose sense "speaking" non-formally, in which case grammar rules don't even actually apply, since grammar doesn't exist, or at the very least is not stressed, in conversations.

You could also argue that in all forms of writing, unless it's specifically "monologue" or "dialogue" written from a character or personal account, then all grammar rules not only apply, but should also be constantly enforced, no matter how informal the medium may be.

When analyzing the specific nature and context of this outlet thought, it's clear that the purpose here is for two things: One, which is the primary purpose, is the expression of the author of the blog, which would make all grammar arguments null and void, since grammar is just a tool of clearly communicating and articulating one's thoughts, and if the only relevant party concerned is the author herself, than whatever grammar level she finds acceptable is enough for it to serve it's purpose.

The second, less primary, purpose of this blog is for the owner to express her thoughts to not "the world", but those who are closest to her. People of the sort where her thoughts would have meaning, and in return their thoughts would have meaning to her. Now given that to be true, one must assume that these people have a degree of familiarity with the author and thus can most probably read her writing with the utmost understanding, even if it were in the crudest syntax.

So ultimately the issue of grammar in a blog is unimportant. While obviously many people would prefer well though out grammar, it would just be a matter of convenience for them, and not essential to the goal of this endeavor.

to katie-thecrowcounter: Understood.

Not to start trouble but:

"...it's clear that the purpose here is for two things: One, which is the primary purpose, is the expression of the author..."

"The second, less primary, purpose of this blog is for the owner to express her thoughts ..."

Clearly two points? Seems like one point to me. You could of just said " This blog is made to express ideas to a select audience of few people. for them, grammar isn't exactly necessary, just convenient."

Of course, you also could of said nothing at all, since you just repeated and fluffed up Katie's reply.

Then again, this post is entirely unneeded as well.

-a belated happy new year!

I clearly stated two points, you cut the sentance in half. You destroyed the context to suit you're argument. Bad form.

I split it so you could see my point, which the unneeded redundancy. I assumed you would be capable of understanding, without my having to spell it out. my apologies for expecting too much of you.

You stated the first point was the expression of the blog, and the second point being the expression of the blog to certain people. wouldn't that make the point of the blog just the latter, and not both?

No, one is the purpose of self-expression. The simple act of the author saying something for her own personal benefit. The other is the expression to those other than herself.

Where you seem to have gotten lost is in the audience. Yes, it's both expression, but one is for the author herself, and the other is to the author's friends.

Two distinctely different purposes.
